What is NKYHelps?
An innovative website launched in 2008 that offers one-stop shopping for volunteerism and donations through the Northern Kentucky region. It’s about making our community the easiest place in the country for people to get involved and to inspire even more people to take part so we can distinguish ourselves as a place with a culture of contribution. The website,
NKYHelps.org, is a part of NKY.com, which generates more than 1 million page views per month.
NKYHelps is a key component of Vision 2015, the 10-year strategic plan for our community.
LEGACY was a founding partner in NKYHelps.org, along with Children Inc., Northern Kentucky University, The Kentucky Enquirer/NKY.com, and United Way of Greater Cincinnati.
Is It Easy to Use?
Absolutely. Users can click to volunteer, donate to a worthy cause, share stories and photos from a volunteer experience, create an account for their own organization to gain volunteers or donations, and find help for themselves or someone they know
The website runs on a large, easy-to-use database that matches the skills and interests of volunteers with organizations that need them. Eligible organizations such as non-profit agencies, churches, schools and governmental bodies request donated goods and monetary donations as well as community service activities. Volunteers even can use the site to organize groups for projects and can share stories about their activities.
What makes it special?
There are other websites for volunteerism. However, this pulls everything together to serve
OUR community. NKYHelps targets a specific region, offers a media partner that can bring a high volume of traffic and provides innovative, cool ways for people to share their stories.
What Does It Cost?
The site operates at no cost to volunteers and participating organizations. Founding sponsors - all Northern Kentucky organizations - have pledged funds for site development and launch costs. Children Inc. and Northern Kentucky University’s Scripps Howard Center for Civic Engagement handle daily administration through an agreement with
LEGACY. The Enquirer/NKY.com provided initial site design & training and continues to provide site hosting and technical support as well as ongoing promotional support in The Enquirer, Community Recorder weekly newspapers, NKY.com and the other sites in the Cincinnati.com network.
How can LEGACY members help?
LEGACY members can use
NKYHelps.org to find community service opportunities that meet their personal goals to make a difference in our region, and share stories about community service on the site.
LEGACY members can also help market the website and participate in other supporting roles for this community-wide effort. Contact the Community Legacy Committee for details about getting involved!
